Overall: Awasom was born in Cameroon, Africa and moved to the USA at the age of four. He played basketball and track for North Texas during his freshman and sophomore seasons but gave up basketball in order to play football in 2001. He started one game as a true freshman in 2001 before emerging as a 13-game starter and second-team All-Sun Belt Conference performer in 2002. Awasom started all 12 games that he played (missed one because of an ankle injury) in 2003 and finished with 44 tackles, seven tackles for loss and four sacks as a first-team All-Sun Belt award winner. As a senior in 2004, Awasom missed one game because of injury but finished with 52 total tackles, 13 TFL and six sacks in 11 starts and was a first-team All-Sun Belt player for the second-consecutive season.Awasom is a late-bloomer who is still somewhat unpolished and has room ...
