Overall: Matthews red-shirted in 2000, he saw limited action in 2001 and he appeared in all 12 of Texas' games in 2002. He started two games while appearing in 13 in 2003. He rushed for 161 yards and one touchdown on 38 carries as a senior in 2004, while also contributing 42 yards on eight receptions. Matthews doesn't have much experience catching the ball and he won't make much of an impact as a ball carrier in the NFL. He also lacks ideal speed. However, Matthews is a big, powerful, nasty blocker that continued to improve throughout his collegiate experience and had his best overall season as a senior. He isn't a threat as a runner but he is tough and can push the pile in short-yardage situations.
