A-League clubs can't match Melbourne City's Cahill wages - Kevin Muscat

Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou is not worried about a succession plan for replacing Tim Cahill when the time comes.
Alessandro Diamanti
The Victory's deal with Alessandro Diamanti, who made 16 appearances for Atalanta last season, fell through without FFA support.

Melbourne Victory aren't sure whether other A-League clubs can afford to sign high-profile players to rival Melbourne City's acquisition of Tim Cahill.

Football Federation Australia knocked back the Victory as the A-League heavyweights sought to use the same "guest player" pot of funding on Italy international Alessandro Diamanti.

Diamanti, 33, represented Italy at Euro 2012, scoring the winning penalty to knock out England, but was deemed not high-profile enough to access FFA funding.

Tim Cahill fit for Melbourne City debut against Brisbane Strikers in FFA Cup

David Gallop confirms Tim Cahill will join the A-League this season, signing a two year deal with Melbourne City.

Melbourne City have declared Tim Cahill ready to make his first Australian club soccer appearance in two decades.

Both City coach John van 't Schip and the man himself believe Cahill is fit enough to make a debut at the unlikely venue of suburban Brisbane ground Perry Park on Wednesday night.

A 3,500-strong capacity crowd is likely for the FFA Cup round of 16 match between City and former National Soccer League club Brisbane Strikers.

Van 't Schip confirmed Cahill would be in the squad but suggested...

Besiktas' all-time record goalscorer Bobo joins Sydney FC

Besiktas striker Bobo
Former Besiktas striker Bobo, left, has joined Sydney FC as their marquee player for the upcoming A-League season.

Sydney FC have confirmed Brazilian striker Deyvison Rogerio "Bobo" da Silva as their major overseas recruit for the coming A-League season.

The 31-year-old, who's set to make his debut for the club in an FFA Cup clash with Perth Glory next week, has joined from Brazilian club Gremio, and has previously starred for Turkish team Besiktas, where he played alongside Sydney's Filip Holosko.

"I'm very happy to be joining to Sydney FC, it is a massive club with a big chance of winning silverware this season,"...

Brisbane Roar owners to do damage control after Daniel Cobb exit

Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou says the A-League matches up with the likes of overseas leagues.
Brisbane Roar fans
A local consortium are ready to step in and help crisis-hit club Brisbane Roar.

The parlous state of Brisbane's finances is set to be laid bare as the embattled A-League club begin sifting through the wreckage of Daniel Cobb's reign as managing director.

AAP understands the Roar are on the brink of financial collapse unless owners the Bakrie Group can provide an instant and significant cash injection to the club.

Cobb was sacked on Wednesday by the Bakrie Group.

The extent of the problems he has left behind are only just coming to light.

With six weeks to go until the start...

Kevin Kuranyi linked with move to A-League club Adelaide United

Kevin Kuranyi
Kevin Kuranyi made 14 appearances for Bundesliga club Hoffenheim last season.

Adelaide United is reportedly waiting on an answer from former German international striker Kevin Kuranyi to become the A-League club's full-season guest marquee player.

The Advertiser claims the Reds have submitted a final offer to the 34-year-old, who last played for Bundesliga club 1899 Hoffenheim, and are expecting a decision from Kuranyi by the weekend.

Football Federation Australia is said to be keen to contribute to Kuranyi's salary, as they did with new Melbourne City recruit Tim Cahill.
