Borussia Monchengladbach ensured there would be no repeat of last season's miserable start to the season as they got their 2016/17 Bundesliga campaign off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

Andre Hahn gave the hosts, who started last season with five straight defeats, the lead on the stroke of half-time, but Joel Pohjanpalo brought Leverkusen level with just 12 minutes remaining.

Borussia Monchengladbach are up against it for the second year running after their reward for beating Young Boys 9-2 on aggregate in the play-offs was a tough draw in the Champions League group stage.

The Foals, who finished bottom of a group including Manchester City, Juventus and Sevilla last season, will face Barcelona, City again and Celtic this time around.
