Liverpool must respond to Manchester United glory in Europa League

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol discusses Liverpool's hopes for next season.

There was a solitary moment of humour for Liverpool fans after Manchester United won the Europa League on Wednesday. It was when Jose Mourinho encouraged his players to hold up three fingers, indicating United had won a treble this season.

It was a tenuous claim which triggered Liverpool memories of their own treble in 2001, one derided for the most part by United supporters as "plastic" or even "Mickey Mouse" as one banner subtly described it.

At least Liverpool's included the FA Cup, not...

Liverpool loan arranger: No move for Ben Woodburn but Ojo needs minutes

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol discusses the possible ins and outs at Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool's attitude toward loaning out youth players has changed considerably under the management of Jurgen Klopp.

When he arrived at Anfield in October 2015, the German manager was surprised to find 17 Liverpool players out on loan.

The following summer, the Merseyside club were extremely selective about the players they thought would benefit from a spell away, while they believed it would be best for other prospects to be nurtured at Melwood and the club's Kirkby academy.

Flashback to Liverpool's first European Cup triumph in 1977

On this day in 2005, Liverpool came back from 3-0 down at half-time against AC Milan to win the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool's (l-r) Phil Neal, Emlyn Hughes and Jimmy Case share Liverpool's first European Cup triumph with the travelling fans.

May 25 is a significant date in Liverpool's history -- it is a date synonymous with the club lifting the European Cup on two separate occasions.

Liverpool legends, current stars on display in 3-0 friendly win in Australia

Jurgen Klopp expresses his gratitude to Sydney FC for welcoming Liverpool to play in Wednesday's friendly.

Liverpool's "past, present and future" were on show as the Reds travelled halfway around the world for a 3-0 friendly win against Sydney FC in Australia on Wednesday.

Manager Jurgen Klopp selected a number of his regulars alongside some of the club's most talented youngsters but his squad also contained four "legends" in Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Steve McManaman and Daniel Agger. Their inclusion gave interest to what would otherwise have seemed a fairly pointless exercise.
