The Vancouver Whitecaps have a slight upper hand over Montreal Impact following a 2-1 first-leg semifinal win at home in the Canadian Championship on Tuesday night.

Teenage sensation Alphonso Davies opened the scoring for the hosts in the 13th minute, and assisted on his team's second goal of the first half, setting up teammate Nicolas Mezquida, whose clinical finish sent the Caps to the dressing room with a 2-0 half-time lead.

Nick Rimando stood strong in net for Real Salt Lake, but a deflected goal by Harry Shipp earned Seattle all three points.

Harry Shipp scored on a well-struck shot that was deflected into goal in the 42nd minute as the Seattle Sounders snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 1-0 win against Real Salt Lake.

The play that led to Shipp's second goal of the season started with a corner kick from the right side from Nicolas Lodeiro. His drive into the penalty area was headed right back out to him, and he again sent it toward the goal.
