Diego Rolan's first-half strike was enough to hand Bordeaux victory over Nantes as they eased their way up the Ligue 1 table.

The Uruguayan's 31st-minute close-range finish from Jeremy Menez's cross proved decisive on an afternoon when both goalkeepers were busy.

Menez had earlier forced two saves from Nantes stopper Remy Riou and midfielder Malcom also tested Riou twice in a lively start to the second half.

However, Bordeaux did not have things all their own way as the visitors fought for a share of...

Gabriel Boschilia scored his first Monaco goal as Leonardo Jardim's side secured their first three points of the season with a 1-0 win at Nantes.

Boschilia, who spent the second part of last season on loan at Standard Liege, opened his account midway through the first half with a stunning free-kick

The former Brazil Under-20 international had an opportunity in the 20th minute after Joao Moutinho and Ivan Cavaleiro combined to tee him up, but a wayward effort failed to find the target.

Nantes striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson aims to build on Euro 2016 heroics

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored twice for Iceland at Euro 2016.

Iceland international striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson has said he is ready to stay at Nantes as he targets a better campaign in Ligue 1 this season.

Sigthorsson, 26, had a difficult first year in France and scored only three league goals in 26 matches.

But he netted twice in five games for his country at Euro 2016 in France, including the winning goal against England in the round of 16.

The former Ajax forward is now hoping he can flourish under new Nantes boss Rene Girard.

Nicolaj Thomsen scored the only goal of the game as Nantes made a winning start against Ligue 1 newcomers Dijon.

The Denmark international, a new summer signing, headed home Jules Iloki's cross from the right-hand side three minutes into the second half at the Stade Gaston-Gerard.

Nantes struggled for goals last season and created little else of note against Dijon, who had gone close to opening the scoring when Valentin Rongier's first-half free-kick had to be smartly saved by Baptiste Reynet down...

ESPN FC's Paul Mariner talks Alejandro Bedoya's MLS interest as he has been linked to the Philadelphia Union.

U.S. international midfielder Alejandro Bedoya has left Nantes to sign with Major League Soccer and will become a member of the Philadelphia Union.

The French club announced the deal on Wednesday and Union coach Jim Curtin confirmed the signing in a news conference later in the day.

Bedoya signed a Designated Player contract, and Curtin said Bedoya could debut at D.C. United on Saturday.
