Toronto wins Canadian Championship thanks to Sebastian Giovinco late show

Toronto FC won its second straight Canadian Championship on Tuesday as Sebastian Giovinco scored deep into stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

Giovinvo won the ball back in the Montreal half, dribbled past one defender and passed the ball off just before being hauled to the pitch.

But he got up in time to run into the box and get on the end of Raheem Edwards cross to net the winner, setting off a huge celebration at BMO Field.

Plans for new Canadian Premier League approved

Fans in Canada could soon have their own Canadian Premier League.

Plans for a Canadian Premier League were approved by the country's soccer leaders this weekend, with founding cities announced for Hamilton and Winnipeg.

The league was officially unveiled at the Canadian Soccer Association's annual meeting, which also saw Steve Reed elected as president.

Though only two teams were initially revealed, Canada Soccer said they have heard from 10 cities interested in joining an all-Canadian league, with aims to begin playing as early as 2018.

Omar Gonzalez has now won five major trophies in his club career, three with the LA Galaxy and now two with Pachuca.

U.S. center back Omar Gonzalez lifted MLS Cup three times with LA Galaxy and his time with Pachuca since signing in December 2015 is proving just as productive in the trophy department.
