Spain defeat France with help of video replay while Italy beat Netherlands

Two of the biggest football countries were on display but it was Video Replay Technology that starred, disallowing one goal and overruling a linesman on another.

The video assistant referee twice played an important role as Spain beat France 2-0 in a friendly in Paris on Tuesday.

FIFA is testing VARs ahead of their possible use at the World Cup, and the system ruled out a goal that had been given for France, and later overruled a linesman to grant Spain a goal.

Antoine Griezmann thought he had put France ahead in the second half, but after the goal was originally given, the VAR called down to the match referee and disallowed the goal for offside...

Netherlands in danger after loss as Ronaldo lifts Portugal, France win

Netherlands are in danger of failing to qualify for a second straight major tournament after losing 2-0 to Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

After finishing third at the 2014 World Cup, the Dutch missed out on Euro 2016 and now find themselves in fourth place midway through their campaign to reach Russia, six points off the lead in Group A and three back of a potential playoff spot.

Danny Blind handed a first cap to 17-year-old Matthijs de Ligt, but the centre-back misplayed a...

FIFA gives Chile and Romania stadium bans, fines many Latin American FAs

Poland's Robert Lewandowski was caught in the explosion of fireworks in a game at Romania last month.

Chile and Romania have received stadium bans from FIFA, as the world governing body issued fines to a number of national football associations on Monday, including many for anti-gay chants in Latin America.

FIFA ruled that Chile will not be allowed to play their next two World Cup qualifiers at their home stadium in Santiago, while also giving out fines to Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and Panama "for various incidents involving unsporting conduct by fans, including homophobic chants...

Greece apologise to Bosnians for fans' Srebrenica banner

Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Greece football officials have apologised to the people of Bosnia-Herzegovina after a fan's banner referred to the Srebrenica massacre at a World Cup qualifying match.

In a statement on Monday, the Greek football federation condemned the "unacceptable posting of a banner with fascist content... which it condemns in the most absolute and categorical way."

A banner with the slogan "Noz, zica, Srebrenica" ("Knife, wire, Srebrenica" in Serbian) was displayed among Greece fans during the teams' 1-1 draw...

Edin Dzeko sent off for relieving opponent of his shorts

Edin Dzeko had to have known he'd be sent off for his actions against Greece on Sunday.

Well now, Edin Dzeko. What exactly were you thinking here?

The incident occurred in a World Cup qualifier on Sunday, with Dzeko's Bosnia-Herzegovina leading 1-0 at Greece in the second half.

Dzeko fell down over the ball and -- taking objection to Sokratis Papastathopoulos standing over him -- the former Manchester City striker pulled the defender's shorts down to his knees.

Then in a finishing...
