Slovakia scored three times in the first half as they cruised to a 4-0 home victory over Lithuania in World Cup Qualifying European Group F.

Martin Skrtel added another in the 36th with a close-range finish and Marek Hamsik's strike then wrapped things up with four minutes to go.

Lithuania moved up into second place in World Cup qualifying Group F with a 2-0 win over Malta, who had a man sent off in Vilnius.

The hosts were looking to build on their 1-1 draw away to Scotland, while Malta had been beaten by group leaders England at Wembley.

Lithuania had the best of the first half, but were left frustrated by a resolute Malta defence.

However, the visitors were finally undone with 14 minutes left when captain Fedor Cernych headed in after a knockdown from a corner.

Gordon Strachan hails Scotland's second-half showing in draw

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan felt his side's second-half display was the best they had played for some time after James McArthur's late header rescued a World Cup qualifying point against Lithuania at Hampden.

Scotland struggled to create chances from open play in the first half and fell behind in the 59th minute after Fedor Cernych played a one-two with Vykintas Slivka to get away from Grant Hanley and bury his shot behind David Marshall.

Most of Scotland's chances came from Andy Robertson's...

Scotland's match against Lithuania not 'must-win' - Dalglish

Substitute Steven Fletcher scored in Scotland's rout of Malta on Sunday.
Scotland made easy work of Malta in their most recent World Cup qualifier.

Kenny Dalglish claims there is no point putting extra pressure on Scotland by labelling Saturday's home game against Lithuania a "must-win'' encounter.

Scotland go into their first Hampden World Cup qualifier on the back of a 5-1 away win against Malta, while Lithuania were held to a draw by Slovenia.

Gordon Strachan's side cannot afford many slip-ups if they are to win a group containing England and second seeds Slovakia but Dalglish feels his former Scotland teammate was right to dismiss suggestions...
