Albania's World Cup qualifier with Macedonia was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch with the game level at 1-1.

Armando Sadiku put Albania ahead inside 10 minutes when he received right-back Elseid Hysaj's cross from a deep position, turned back on to his right foot and produced a crisp low finish from the edge of the box.

Ergjan Alioski equalised in the 51st minute when he was gifted possession, took on Berat Djimsiti and fired home low with his left foot from 20 yards.

Spain open World Cup qualifying with big win as 10-man Italy hold on

Despite being down a man for most of the second-half, the Azzuri took three points in their opening WC Qualifying match.
Spain's David Silva, with 104 caps to his name, says he will use his experience to help guide the team's youngsters.

Spain cruised to victory while Italy held on to open their World Cup qualifying campaigns with wins in Group G on Monday.

Diego Costa, David Silva and Alvaro Morata all scored twice as Spain broke the game open in the second half to thrash Liechtenstein 8-0.

Costa rose the highest to meet Koke's free kick from the side of the box in the 10th minute.

Spain were frustrated for the rest of the first half as Sergio Busquets saw an effort cleared off the line by defender Michele Polverino. But the floodgates...

Naser Aliji
Naser Aliji was born in Macedonia but plays for Albania.

While the fixture list for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers offer most European teams a gentle return to international action, the opening game in Group G between Albania and Macedonia promises to be a fiery affair for both sides involved, on and off the pitch.

Back in Naser Aliji's hometown of Kumanovo in north east Macedonia, friends and family will be glued to screens showing the game, hoping the Kaiserslautern full-back can continue to build on his fledgling international career. None though will...

Germany stunned by Slovakia; Spain ease to victory; Italy stifle Scotland

In a wild and rainy friendly match, Slovakia came back from 1-nil down to defeat Germany 3-1.

Slovakia shocked World Cup winners Germany with an impressive 3-1 win in a rain-swept Augsburg on Sunday evening.

Mario Gomez gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot after Juraj Kucka fouled Mario Gotze, but Slovakia captain Marek Hamsik and Michal Duris turned the friendly on its head with two goals in three minutes before the heavens opened at half-time.

A delay to the start of the second half, caused by the weather, did not knock the Slovakians out of their stride and Kucka added a third,...

Friendlies: Aritz Aduriz helps Spain draw in Italy as Turkey beat Sweden

Aritz Aduriz scored his first international goal for Spain in a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Italy at the Stadio Friuli in Udine on Thursday.

The hosts took the lead in the 67th minute through Lorenzo Insigne, who slid in to meet Emanuele Giaccherini's cross.

It was the first goal Spain had conceded in nearly 700 minutes.

But less than three minutes later, Aduriz levelled the score in his first appearance for La Roja since 2010.

Alvaro Morata, who appeared to be offside, headed towards goal...
