ESPN FC's Dez Corkhill and John Wilkinson break down Albirex Niigata's Singapore League Cup triumph.

Southeast Asian football fans watched with eager anticipation on Tuesday night as the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup draw was held in Yangon. Singapore were dealt a huge blow when they found themselves in Group A, alongside defending champions Thailand, co-hosts Philippines and Indonesia.

Across the Causeway, Ong Kim Swee must have heaved a sigh of relief when Malaysia escaped with an easier Group B, comprising co-hosts Myanmar, 2008 champions Vietnam and the winners of October's qualifiers.

Singapore handed tougher 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup draw than Malaysia

Singapore will face 2014 champions Thailand and co-hosts Philippines at the 2016 Suzuki Cup.

Singapore have been placed in a more difficult group than neighbours Malaysia after Tuesday night's draw for the AFF 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup in Yangon.

The 11th edition of the biennial Southeast Asian tournament will be held between Nov. 19 and Dec. 17 in Philippines and Myanmar.

V. Sundramoorthy's side are in Group A, based in Philippines. Apart from the co-hosts, they will face defending champions Thailand and unpredictable Indonesia, who have just returned from a 12-month FIFA ban.

New head coach V. Sundramoorthy admits that Singapore's attack needs to make improvements after firing blanks in the final of the AYA Bank Cup against Vietnam in Yangon on Monday night.

It meant that Sundram was denied a dream start to his 12-month contract in charge.

"We need to create more. We could have done more, especially the flankers, who did better in our 1-0 win over...

Italy control Finland as Iceland win and Poland draw in friendlies

Italy were fully in control as they beat Finland 2-0 in Verona on Monday in their final warm-up for Euro 2016.

Antonio Candreva won and converted a penalty in the first half, coolly side-footing into the bottom right corner after being tripped by Perparim Hetemaj, who plays club football at the same stadium.

Candreva also set up Italy's second goal, with a cross which substitute Daniele De Rossi headed into the bottom right corner in the 71st minute.

De Rossi had been on the pitch for only seven...

Vietnam striker Le Cong Vinh, right, broke the deadlock against Singapore in the first minute of extra time.

Singapore suffered their first defeat under coach V. Sundramoorthy when they were beaten 3-0 after extra time by dominant Vietnam in Monday night's final of the 2016 AYA Bank Cup in Yangon.

After a resolute Lions display kept the Vietnamese at bay throughout 90 minutes, it took just 25 seconds of extra time for the deadlock to be broken through a strike from talismanic captain Le Cong Vinh.

Eight minutes later, Nguyen Van Quyet popped up with a second for the Golden Stars before substitute Dinh...
