WrestleMania 35

WWE fans got what they wanted at WrestleMania 35

WWE fan favorites Becky Lynch, Kofi Kingston and Seth Rollins all won at WrestleMania 35, securing all of WWE's top titles in one exciting, emotional night. So what comes next?

The best of WrestleMania 35

Extended cuts of post-match interviews with Kofi Kingston, Seth Rollins and The IIconics, plus all of the best of what we captured throughout WrestleMania week.

Two title matches occurred on this week's episode of NXT TV. The Velveteen Dream defeated Buddy Murphy to retain the North American championship and Shayna Baszler beat Kairi Sane to hold onto her NXT women's championship. Baszler won via disqualification when Io Shirai came to the aide of Sane who was dealing with an injured arm. As a result of Sane's loss, she is out of the NXT women's championship picture. Luckily for her, and Buddy Murphy for that matter, a bright future lies ahead on SmackDown Live. Also on the show, as new NXT champion Johnny Gargano was delivering a celebration promo to fans in Full Sail, Adam Cole interrupted. While Gargano and Cole were jawing back and forth, Roderick Strong attacked Gargano from behind and the Undisputed Era jumped in and continued the assault. As a result, Gargano and Strong will battle next week. Finally, Dominik Dijakovic picked up a win over Aaron Frye in mere seconds and declare his desire to become North American champion.

In what looked to be his farewell to 205 Live, Cedric Alexander lost in the main event to Oney Lorcan in a match that first struggled to hold the Montreal crowd's attention, but won them over as the match went on and got more physical. Cedric's career went from chanting "Please sign Cedric" after a Cruiserweight Classic loss to Kota Ibushi, to "Thank you Cedric" after his loss Tuesday. Alexander is on his way to Raw after the Superstar Shakeup. Also on Tuesday, Ariya Daivari won a fatal four-way match, sneaking to get the pin on Akira Tozawa after Mike Kanellis hit his finisher and Gran Metallik hit a springboard elbow. He could be put in position to be Tony Nese's first challenger.

After a three-day span from WrestleMania to SmackDown Live, nine of the 10 main roster titles changed hands. Samoa Joe is now the longest-reigning champion on the red or blue brands. That doesn't even include Johnny Gargano winning the NXT Championship or WALTER defeating Pete Dunne for the U.K. title.

WrestleMania Re-Cap

Post-Match Interviews

Peter Rosenberg catches up with the huge title winners at Wrestlemania 35 including Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder, The IIconics (3:32), Kofi Kingston (6:55) and Seth Rollins (16:00).

WrestleMania weekend was a costly stretch for WWE with at least two superstars down with serious leg injuries coming out of the biggest show of the year. Nia Jax is set to undergo surgery to repair damage to both of her ACLs, while Big E suffered a torn meniscus that will also put him on the shelf. AJ Styles also walked out of WrestleMania worse for the wear, spraining his SI joint while executing a superplex during his match with Randy Orton. On live streaming platform Mixer, Styles talked about his injury while playing PUBG. "It kind of knocked my hips out of place and then everything else -- all those muscles in your butt and your back -- swell up, and then those muscles press on your nerve endings, and next thing you know you can't walk the next day." Styles also said that nothing was broken and that he hoped to be back in action soon.

Rollins wants 'to headline Wrestlemania next year'

After defeating Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins says next year he wants to headline Wrestlemania.

SmackDown Recap

While WWE champion Kofi Kingston didn’t have a blockbuster matchup lined up Tuesday, he and his New Day teammates took care of The Bar and Drew McIntyre in relatively swift fashion. That was one of a handful of tag-team matches on a chaotic night in which no one’s back was safe. Ali (who along with Ricochet and Aleister Black had just beaten Shinsuke Nakamura, Rusev and Andrade) was RKO’d by Randy Orton. Moments later, Kevin Owens delivered a stunner to Rusev. United States champion Samoa Joe, who dominated Rey Mysterio in under a minute two nights earlier at WrestleMania, caught R-Truth in an Coquina Clutch, before Joe himself came to blows with Braun Strowman. And for the second night in a row, Lacey Evans sucker-punched Raw and SmackDown champion Becky Lynch, setting up what will surely be a fun showdown in the coming weeks.

Three matches, which were taped before last week’s TakeOver: New York event, aired on NXT TV this week. The Street Profits defeated the duo of Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner, Jaxson Ryker of the Forgotten Sons beat Danny Burch and Candice LeRae picked up a win against Aliyah. Following a backstage confrontation between Velveteen Dream and former Cruiserweight champion Buddy Murphy at WrestleMania on Sunday, Dream will battle Murphy on next week's show with the North American championship on the line. Another title will be on the line next week when Shayna Baszler defends the NXT women's championship against Kairi Sane. If Sane loses, she will not receive another opportunity at the title.

WrestleMania week culminated with a 205 Live main event that saw Tony Nese retain his title over Buddy Murphy in a match that one-upped what they did at WrestleMania. With the crowd hot, it was a great way to end the festivities. It also makes you wonder what's next for Murphy, who could be starting a feud with NXT's Velveteen Dream. Also on 205 Live, Humberto Carrillo picked up a DQ victory over Gentleman Jack Gallagher when Drew Gulak pushed Carrillo off the top rope. Gulak continued the assault of Carrillo until Gallagher intervened with a headbutt, seemingly ending the relationship between those two as well.

Monday Night Raw

One night after giving fans everything they wanted at WrestleMania 35, WWE made a wild miscalculation and ended up with a main event match on Raw that was soundly booed despite containing new WWE champion Kofi Kingston and new Universal champion Seth Rollins. The night started with Rollins’ and Kingston’s celebration turning into a one-on-one, winner take all, title vs. title challenge. Despite Becky Lynch winning just such a match one night prior, it seemed likely that the match wouldn’t end with a pin or submission, but it seemed to be an opportunity to make a strong villain in the meantime. The match was ultimately interrupted just as it was starting to pick up, but not at the end of the show; instead, Sheamus and Cesaro were the perpetrators and thus became the catalyst for a hard to swallow tag team main event. The crowd went thermonuclear, chanting everything from “AEW” to “CM Punk” in the show’s final moments. Though the bait and switch was telegraphed, instead using it to give the rub to a debuting person or team, or a returning superstar, could have made a world of difference; instead, WWE started out the post-WrestleMania season on the wrong foot.

On the plus side, there were plenty of moments to be happy about over the rest of Raw. The Undertaker made a surprise appearance and decimated Elias, garnering the loudest reaction of the night after not showing up to WrestleMania. Sami Zayn returned to action after nine months off as well, and after an unsuccessful Intercontinental championship challenge laid into fans and made it clear which side of the aisle his character resides in. Lars Sullivan made his long-awaited debut by destroying Kurt Angle as he was saying goodbye to the WWE audience. Lacey Evans finally did something more than walk up and down a ramp, although some might chafe at the punch she threw at Becky Lynch which sparked a brawl and a likely first rivalry for the new double champion. Alexa Bliss had her first televised match since January, and defeated Bayley in short order.

Rounding out the rest of the night’s news: the Superstar Shakeup will rebalance the Raw and SmackDown rosters over two nights next week. Aleister Black and Ricochet defeated Bobby Roode and Chad Gable, while Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder successfully defended their new tag team titles against The Revival, pushing Hawkins’ win streak to two. With his last match scheduled, Dean Ambrose instead had it out with Bobby Lashley, after Lashley and Lio Rush mentioned Ambrose’s wife -- but Lashley ultimately got the best of it in the end. Finally, there were a pair of backstage promos -- one for Mojo Rawley, who stood in front of a cracked mirror, and a mysterious puppet popping out of a cardboard box that may indicate the impending return of Bray Wyatt.

Lynch slams Rousey for 'disrespectful' comments about wrestling

So much for the waffle-throwing, fun-loving guy. During a contract signing to close out SmackDown Live on Tuesday night, Kofi Kingston was intense and focused. He shot down Daniel Bryan’s claims that the WWE champ knew anything about him. As the crowd yelled Kofi's name in unison, he had this to say: “You claim to be me, to know what I am feeling. But you don’t know anything about me. … I’ve been here 11 years and I have not had a WWE championship match, but that’s OK because it’s led to this moment.” All we can say is … Bring. It. On.

While there was little news outside of the announcement The Usos will put their SmackDown tag-team championships on the line at WrestleMania against Ricochet and Aleister Black, The Bar and Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura, the episode did a good job of elevating the heat between Sunday’s combatants. The IIconics guaranteed they’d leave Mania as the women’s tag-team champs, while Randy Orton laid out AJ Styles with a devastating RKO during the "KO Show." Becky Lynch made a brief appearance and had some strong fighting words for her two upcoming foes and 18 performers duked it out in a mixed-tag-team match turned de facto battle royal, with Asuka standing tall at the end.

The Miz dug deep and showed a new level of toughness in beating SAnitY in a three-on-one falls-count-anywhere handicap match. Miz, who before the match said he was looking forward to WrestleMania and fighting for his father’s honor after Shane McMahon grabbed his dad by the throat a few weeks ago, took the bout out of the ring -- and out of the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, before pinning Eric Young. The question now, of course, is whether Miz can replicate that effort against McMahon come Mania. Something says The Miz will get his revenge on Shane O-Mac and leave MetLife stadium with his hands held high.

Flair: 'I am that good and I'm not apologizing'

Rousey: I've learned to stop doubting my ability to be great

Monday Night Raw

The stars were out on a busy night on Monday Night Raw -- the final episode ahead of WrestleMania 35. Stephanie McMahon announced at the top of the show that the main event of WrestleMania between Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey would be a "winner takes all" contest for both the Raw and SmackDown women's championships. After Lynch, Flair and Rousey were forced to coexist as a tag team, under threat of losing their match, Rousey attacked the moment she picked up the win over Liv Morgan of the Riott Squad. Chaos erupted, security guards and police officers were attacked, and all three women were cuffed and put into squad cars. Windows got kicked out, Rousey commandeered one of the cars and their desire to destroy each other was clear.

Raw offered Batista, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre and Finn Balor a final chance to get their point across before their respective WrestleMania matches. With a highlight reel of all of his wins over Triple H and four words -- "Hunter, kiss my a--" -- Batista sent a message in front of a hometown crowd in D.C. Balor confirmed that he will take on his demon persona at WrestleMania against Bobby Lashley with a spooky promo. McIntyre attacked Roman Reigns backstage and had a few choice words for his opponent along the way. Finally, Rollins went low twice on Brock Lesnar before delivering a stomp to Lesnar's head.

Rounding out the in-ring action, Beth Phoenix returned for her first (non-Royal Rumble) match since 2012 and picked up a win for her, Natalya, Bayley and Sasha Banks over The IIconics, Nia Jax and Tamina. The Revival held onto the Raw tag team championships by the skin of their teeth against Aleister Black and Ricochet via countout, ending a spectacular match with some trickery from Scott Dawson. Heavy Machinery defeated Chad Gable and Bobby Roode, Apollo Crews bested Jinder Mahal with the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy sitting ringside and Braun Strowman beat up a pair of local talents he said represented Colin Jost and Michael Che. Finally, a scheduled match between Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio became Mysterio vs. Baron Corbin, with Corbin picking up a win after Deep Six. Raw went off the air for the final time before WrestleMania with Angle holding Corbin in an ankle lock at the top of the ramp.
